Fruit Jam is a sorting game that has a delicious tropical beverage-making theme. It shares play elements with hardware- and pushpin-sorting and match-3 games.
To make ice-cold beverages at a beach bar, the player must add ingredients to a commercial beverage-making machine that features two free prep stations and two locked ones. The game presents the ingredients as pins affixed to various hanging shapes below the counter.
The player selects ingredient pins based on the color of a drink glass that slides into position at a station. After they select three pieces, the game fills the clear funnel above the glass with juice. Common ingredients include beets, blueberries, chocolate, lemons, oranges, pears, plums, strawberries, and watermelons.
Fruit Jam offers five spots for temporary placement of unneeded pieces. The player uses these spaces to help them remove shapes and uncover hidden fruit. If they need an extra one, the game provides them with an ad-supported jackhammer booster that drills a hole. Other boosters include a hammer that hits and auto-transfers one or more ingredients to the machine and a brush that sweeps away unwanted pieces in the holes.
The game also has a side game that involves the collection of jigsaw puzzles. Once the player makes all the drinks for a specific level, they receive the ability to reveal a puzzle piece and part of a hidden picture. Over time, they reveal and collect a variety of these pictures.
