Discover the horrifying ways that elastic can stretch!
Elastic Man is a casual interactive that emphasizes engagement of the senses. It doesn't require anything of the player other than that they have a lot of fun!
Another AI experiment by animator David Li, Elastic Man presents the player with a roundish, open-mouth face on a dark, gradient blue background and the simple instruction of "pull the skin." The first thing they will notice is that the face isn't static. Its bulbous eyes track any movement of the cursor. Yet, everything else on the screen is eerily still.
The fun and horror begin when the player follows the command!
Pulling on the face causes it to immediately ripple, crinkle and shift into odd shapes while splashing and other water-based sounds occur in the background. Although the texture of the face and sounds make it seem like the face is nothing more than a rubber or plastic ball or mask floating in an ocean, the eye movements and rounded mouth create the illusion of a living being trapped in the water in a terrifying elastic form.
Even if the player stops touching the face, it continues to move as if being pushed around by ocean waves. Additionally, the eyes continue to follow the player's cursor movements!!!
