Ear Doctor is a simulation game that shows a player the common types of problems that an otolaryngologist might treat in their office. It also reveals some of the types of treatments that a patient might expect to receive from someone in this career field.
It's important to note that although some of the conditions and tools are exaggerated and unrealistic, the game does a good job of showing the basics to the player, including the structures of the canal and inner ear and diseases and illnesses that impact the ear.
The player starts by picking a patient. They then use a strong light to reveal the ear issues. Although ear enlargement with forceps is also unrealistic, the game uses these tools like a camera zoom feature. The common conditions brought to light include ear wax, ear hair, cuts on the skin, acne, abscesses and boils, germs and old scars. Common tools include swabs, water, tweezers, sutures, cryotherapy and syringes.
Ear Doctor also includes several mini games. For example, the player can put together a puzzle that features the structures of the ear and blast away germs in the ear canal.
