Drop Blocks is a match-3 that has elements similar to popular bubble-pop and block-explosion games. A player faces rows of mixed colorful blocks on a playfield. They must match three or more connected blocks of the same color. Their goal isn't to clear the playfield entirely. The game actually adds a row of blocks to the bottom of the playfield every so many seconds. Instead, the player's only objective is to remove as many blocks as possible before new rows or time runs out. The player also loses a level if any of the blocks reach the black-and-yellow-striped warning line at the top of the screen. The game displays the number of rows left remaining before time runs out on the right sidebar along with the player's score.
The player can earn bonus points by performing different actions during gameplay. For example, they receive a bonus if they remove more than three blocks at a time. The bonus amount increases with mass-removal of blocks during any single moment of gameplay. They also receive bonuses at the end of each level that increase in amount based on the number of removed rows. When the player wins a level, they receive extra points and colorful diamond-shaped stars float down the screen.
