Donut Clicker is an idle game in which a player must perform incremental actions to complete achievements. The donut theme involves the player achieving different baking career levels. They start out as Grandma and advance to Amateur
Baker, Baker and Master-Baker.
The game doesn't present a story. Instead, the player advances via cursor and clicker achievements represented by icons on the right side of the screen, including Better, Powerful, Super and Mega Cursor and Beginner, Casual, Amateur, Experienced, Challenger, Champion, Master, Legend and Mythical Clicker. They pay for upgrades related to these achievements with donuts they earn with each action.
The player uses their donuts and earned dimonds to buy tools that help them earn faster, such as a golden donut rain that rapidly provides a lot of donuts with one click, gift packages that contain surprise items and bombs that auto-generate a certain amount of donuts. They receive golden candies as well that provide upgrades, such as a higher number of gems or donuts per click or donuts when idle. Eventually, they can earn enough donuts to earn gummy-bear achievements that provide auto-click options.
Donut Clicker even supplies the player with advertisement and offline earning opportunities. As long as they don't reset their browser's cache, the player earns donuts when offline. When they watch ads, they earn diamonds or a multiplier that boosts their income for a certain amount of time. As they progress through the game, the player can also change the skin of the main donut to sprinkle- and icing-covered pink, blue, green, yellow, chocolate, vanilla and purple standard- and heart-shaped donuts.
