Cut the Rope is a logic-puzzle game in which a player is tasked with maintaining the health and well-being of an adorable, green creature called Om Nom. His people, the Nommies, are happiest when living in boxes and eating swirl, hard candies.
One or more candies hang from a rope or ropes inside of Om Nom's boxes. The player cuts each rope in unique ways to guarantee that Om Nom receives his treat. If Om Nom doesn't receive the candy or candies, the player must restart the level.
The game begins in Season 1. It features five boxes (Cardboard Box, Fabric Box, Foil Box, Magic Box and Valentine's Box) and at least dozens of levels per box. The player collects stars in each level that help them unlock all the boxes and levels in order. Season 2 features five more boxes (Toy Box, Gift Box, Cosmic Box, Toolbox and Buzz Box). At the time of this writing, this version of the game ends with seven boxes in Season 3 (DJ Box, Spooky Box, Steam Box, Lantern Box, Cheese Box, Pillow Box and Mechanical).
Cut the Rope features a lot of obstacles. Beyond collecting stars, the player must also collect 21 drawings of Om Nom hidden throughout the seasons. They must pay attention to physics-based elements, including gravity, motion and friction. They must keep the candy out of reach of candy-stealing spiders, candy-breaking spikes, candy-capturing bubbles and many other threats.
