Cubica is a block-matching game that features elements from popular match-3 and tile-matching games with a few important differences. Against stunning backdrops, it displays one or more boards per level that contain a mix of color- and pattern-matched cubes. The player's objective is to pop at least two instead of three cubes to complete item collection goals displayed on a left-side vertical panel. Common items include gemstones, wooden crates, music notes from speakers, and bubbles. The player must also unlock new levels, earn coins and collect rewards.
The player can create special items that also pop cubes and collect basic items. They use the patterns on the cubes to guide their actions. Special items are especially helpful when they must deal with the cubes shifting in abnormal left, right and upward directions.
For example, when the player selects adjacent cubes that feature explosion icons, the pieces merge at the selection point to form a wrapped stick dynamite bomb. When they select cubes marked with balls, they form a disco ball that strikes color-matched cubes with electricity. If they combine two adjacent special items, they create a super effect, such as placing bombs in all one-color positions by combining a bomb with a disco ball.
Cubica offers five locked boosters on a right-side vertical panel as well. Over time, the player gains access to a hammer that clears one item, rockets that clear rows and columns, a die from a dice set that shuffles all pieces, and a paintbrush that changes the color of all one-color cubes.
The game offers various other fun distractions that reward the player with extra coins and boosters. The player can play bonus levels, change the home screen backdrop after they win a specific number of levels, and participate in special events and mini-games.
