Color Cross is a complex coloring logic-puzzle game similar to paint-by-number and cross-stitch games. The player fills empty cells with different colored blocks in specific positions dictated by colored numbers above the columns and to the left of the rows. They use Xs to fill the remaining cells.
Against a gradient-blue backdrop, the game starts with a 5x5 grid of dark blue cells. The player checks the colors of the numbers to guide them. For example, if a column has a green 2 stacked above a gold 3, they select cells from the top down vertically to paint two green blocks and then three gold ones.
That said, if the numbers above the column are short of five cells, such as with a green 1 above a gold 3, they use the numbers to the left of the rows to determine placement. If the second row also displays a green 1 and a gold 3, they place the X for both the column and the row in the same position. With many levels, the game auto-fills the X when the player colors in everything first.
Color Cross increases the size of the grid with more cells and additional colors over time. The player can beat this complexity by carefully narrowing down the placements of the colors. For example, they might fill in a row or column that needs only one color of cells first, such as 8 red cells in a column on an 8x8 grid.
The game doesn't issue a penalty for mistakes. When the player does well, it rewards them with a victory banner along with three stars and fireworks that become confetti.
