Cover Orange 2 is a logic-puzzle game. Across 60 levels, the player uses their knowledge of physics to help anthropomorphic oranges take cover to avoid deadly rain that kills on contact. They also attempt to earn a high score and three stars per level.
Each scene presents a complicated scenario in which one or more oranges need to take cover under prefabricated wooden planks or other materials while various animals look on. The player must figure out the "trick" that works best to arrange protection. For example, they might need to drop an orange in front of a high-powered fan so that the air rolls it to safety under a plank.
The player earns the highest score and most stars when they figure out the solution and complete the task quickly. While the rain cloud drifts from the left to the right side of the screen, they must also look for a star to appear near an animal and select it before the animal hides it from view. If they fail to receive earn three stars per level, they can use a reload button to try again.
Cover Orange 2 provides several helpful tools. The player receives a semi-transparent preview of multiple objects they can drop in a scene in the upper-left area. They can use a lower-left fast-forward button to speed up the cloud's movement and a separate lower-right fast-forward button to skip a level.
