Color By Number: Barbie is a color-by-number game in the Barbiesque category. The player paints grayscale pixelated images of standard and anime characters that share physical qualities with Mattel's Barbie and her friends.
The game provides unpainted images in The Library. Any image the player works on or completes becomes saved to the Performed area. In the images, the Barbie-like character might work, for example, as a cowgirl, club singer, rock star or police officer.
When the player selects an image, they must use the onscreen zoom in (+) and zoom out (-) magnifier buttons near the lower-right corner to reveal the numbered pixels. They then use dozens of circular number-matched paint swatches on a palette below the image to paint each cell. If they make a coloring mistake, they can fix it with an eraser tool.
Color By Number: Barbie allows the player to use special onscreen actions to effortlessly paint multiple adjacent number-matched pixels with a single move. The player can also adjust the position of the image by sliding it up and down or side to side on the playfield.
The game doesn't lock images. As a result, the player can select any image at any time. Since the game tracks the player's progress, they can stop coloring one and switch to another as often as they desire.
