Coin Sort is a casual sorting game in the stacked item sorting subcategory. The player receives different types of coins in a set of three stacks at a time below a 5x6 grid. Their primary goals are to earn a high score and play as long as possible until no more moves remain on the grid. Their secondary goals are to attempt to unlock achievements and associated ribbons and rank high on a global leaderboard.
The player receives points in the upper-center area when they create one-color stacks that have a specific number of coins. To sort the mixed-color stacks, they must place the pieces on the grid in optimal positions based on the colors of the top coins. The game only auto-sorts coins for them when they place stacks that have matching top coins in adjacent positions. It won't provide additional stacks until they use all three from a set.
This game is a lot like hexa-style sorting games that feature stacks of six-sided tiles. That said, it differs from most of those games in several ways. It doesn't complicate play with stacks that randomly appear on the grid, locked grid spaces or a timer. It also doesn't allow the player to customize the coins. It is an extremely casual game. The player merely tries to make and remove one-color stacks through strategic placement of mixed-color ones.
Coins Sort resets the player's score if they leave the grid area to return to the home screen for any reason. When the player restarts play from scratch, the game displays their last best score in the upper-right area next to a gold crown.
