Christmas Coloring By Numbers is a color-by-number game that features grayscale images of animals, characters, objects and people commonly associated with the Christmas holiday or winter. The player paints each image using a color palette. Their goal is to paint a picture 100% correctly without mistakes and earn three stars per task.
The game provides a wide selection of images. That said, the player must view ads to unlock approximately half of the pictures. When the player selects one, they're taken to a field where it's displayed with a zoomed out or zoomed in view. To manually zoom in, they must use a horizontal zoom bar in the upper-left corner. The game presents the picture's subject as a grid of pixels marked with different numbers. It displays the numbered paint palette below this area.
Christmas Coloring by Numbers also offers a challenge. The player must always paint one or more pixels with a matching color. They must never select non-matching numbered pixels. If they make a mistake, the game turns the incorrect pixel or pixels red and decreases the star bar at the top of the screen. At the end of the task, it then penalizes the player for coloring incorrectly by removing one or more stars from their winnings and reducing their percentage.
