Checkers

Board

Checkers is a classic strategy board game played between two players. It is also known as draughts and is played on a square board with alternating light and dark spaces. The game is easy to learn but offers deep tactical challenges that reward careful thinking.

The goal of Checkers is to remove all of your opponents pieces or leave them with no possible moves. Each player starts with twelve pieces placed on opposite sides of the board. One player controls the light pieces while the other controls the dark pieces.

Players take turns moving one piece diagonally to an empty space. Only the dark squares of the board are used. When a piece jumps over an opposing piece that piece is captured and removed from the board. Multiple captures can be made in a single turn if possible. If a capture is available it must be taken.

Regular pieces move forward only and are called men. When a man reaches the far side of the board it becomes a king. Kings can move and capture both forward and backward which makes them very powerful.

You can play Checkers against the computer play locally with another player or challenge others online. Online play allows you to join public rooms or create a private room to play with friends.

Winning requires planning ahead using forced captures wisely and aiming to promote your pieces to kings. With practice you will learn when to attack defend or sacrifice pieces to gain a better position.

Checkers remains one of the most popular board games thanks to its simple rules and rich strategy.
