Car Out Jam is a sorting game that features parking lot vehicle and passenger sorting and story elements. In the heart of a busy city, the player must successfully transfer people wearing solid-colored clothing to color-matched vehicles to unlock new levels and receive coins, stars and other rewards.
The game features different sorting scenarios. With some levels, the player merely attempts to clear a queue of passengers waiting for transportation in front of a building. In other levels, they must clear the sidewalk because of a public emergency.
The story elements vary by level. For example, the player might need to help firefighters end a vehicle fire, police save a victim from attackers, or emergency medical technicians treat a seriously injured person. Some levels also feature obstacles, such as black mystery vehicles and underground parking exits. The player must manually prompt first responders to perform actions, unblock black vehicles to reveal colors, and unblock exits to clear all hidden underground vehicles.
On each level, the game displays the number of passengers on a digital sign next to the queue. The player can only transfer unblocked vehicles marked with white arrows to one of four available parking spaces in front of the sidewalk. If necessary, they can unlock three additional spaces with coins or ad views.
Car Out Jam eventually reveals three helpful boosters. The player can swap passengers in the queue for easier sorting and fill any vehicle no matter the color of the passengers at the start of the line. On random levels, they can also give VIP priority to one vehicle and passengers in a special VIP parking space.
