Candy Match 4 is a match-3 puzzle game. An adorable cat needs the player's help collecting candies in an amusement park filled with candy and dessert structures, rides and landscapes.
The game features two distinct modes (Journey and Tournament). With Journey, the player follows a path through the park and completes tasks across levels. They win up to three gold stars, trophy points and coins with each round of play. They can use their coins to buy boosters for either mode. With Tournament, they attempt to complete competitive tasks, like earning as many points as possible within a specific number of moves.
The match-3 games consist of a task area informing the player of their goal and a checkerboard-style gameboard holding a mix of candies (i.e., hard candies in different colors and shapes, the tops of lollipops, and beans). With some boards, the pieces might rest on crackers or within ice or other objects. To remove pieces, the player matches three or more of the same type on a horizontal or vertical line.
As with the previous games, Candy Match 4 offers both special items and boosters. If the player matches more than three candies, they create special items that clear rows and columns depending on the direction of the striped lines displayed on the candies. They sometimes also create ornament-style bombs and rainbow-swirled hard candies. These items collect a mix of candies with one move. The boosters offer additional complex play and include a swap tool, a magic wand and rockets.
