Building Sort is a sorting, logic-puzzle game similar to games that task players with sorting balls in test tubes. It challenges a player to sort floors and sections of buildings on developed land to create new buildings across 30 levels.
Each level features a blue background and a floating piece of land with whole or partial buildings, streets, sidewalks, cars, trees and other cityscape elements. When the player selects the top of a building and an empty lot or the top of a matching building, a giant orange crane sweeps down from offscreen to pick up the floor or section and deposit it on the selected spot.
The player must determine the correct order of the floors and sections to complete each building. The order is typically based on exterior paint and architectural features, such as carvings or the number or type of windows. Smaller sections always fit on top of the finished buildings.
That said, the game also hides floors and sections. The player eventually reaches levels that feature brown brick buildings. The player must move one piece of a building to reveal its true exterior color and pattern. They then sort and swap sections based on what appears with each transfer.
Building Sort has no money or advertising tasks. The player's only goal is to sort the floors and other sections of buildings to make the city look its best.
