Bubble Buster is a bubble-popping game that takes place in a world filled with different colors and types of bubbles. In 100 levels, the player uses an arrow shooter to earn points by popping groups of color-matched bubbles that hang from the top of the playfield. Their primary goal is to pop every pattern before the bubbles reach a line of golden dashes above the shooter. Their secondary goal is to earn a high score from standard play and bonuses for good time.
The player uses a light gray pixelated aiming line to target specific bubbles. They perform angled shots off the sides of the field to reach bubbles connected at higher spots in a pattern. The bubbles explode like mini fireworks. Any non-matched ones drop like balls in an avalanche, bounce upon impact with the ground, explode and reward points.
To plan their next shot before shooting the main projectile, the player previews the next projectile to the left of the shooter. They also review their current elapsed time counting upward from zero on a horizontal digital time panel located below level and score panels in the upper-left area.
Bubble Buster offers a preview of the patterns of bubbles for every level, even locked ones, on the screen that displays the level buttons. The player can use these previews to prepare for challenges, such as complex, difficult-to-shoot patterns or long ones that might reach the penalty line faster.
