Bubble Birds is a bubble-popping game with a rescue theme. On a tropical island, the player attempts to free baby birds from hanging rows, level up often, and earn a high score.
Different types of birds visit the island, including bluebirds, cardinals, hummingbirds, parrots and woodpeckers. On a smoky panel, the player uses bubble shooter action to return the baby birds to their parents. The game provides them with a non-traditional shooter in the form of a nest made of twigs that rests atop a seaweed-covered stone.
The player receives one baby bird in the nest at a time. They shoot a hatchling at two or more matching connected ones to create a clutch or group. When they make an accurate shot, smoke bursts onto the screen, and the babies disappear with a flash of feathers. Any non-matching ones attached to the group drop off the bottom of the screen.
Bubble Birds randomly drops new rows of hatchlings onto the panel over time. The player doesn't receive any forewarning. Penalties typically happen if they fail to make a specific number of consecutive shots. They receive points for standard hits and combo streaks.
This game also contains several quirky, random challenges or glitches. If the player angles a shot off a side wall, the bird projectile might swap positions with one already in a row. If they hit a single matching bird, the game might count the hit as a three-bird group. Lastly, some projectiles pop upon impact with the side walls.
