Block Pixels is a block puzzle game with a hidden object theme. The player's main objective is to reveal and collect hidden pixelated pictures. They complete this task by arranging polyomino shapes made of blocks into eight-block lines on an 8x8 grid. They also attempt to earn a high global score.
The game displays a quick snap of the hidden image before the level begins. For example, it might show the player a picture of a yellow smiley face or a red heart.
The player arranges shapes that appear below the grid in sets of three to create horizontal and vertical lines. When they complete one or more lines, any blocks that match one of the colors on the picture transfer to a smaller grid in the lower-left area.
Block Pixels rewards the player with extra combo points when they arrange the shapes to complete multiple lines with one move. Yet, this game uses the temptation of higher points to trick the player into making mistakes that cause them to run out of space.
As a result, the player should weigh the possibility of a higher score against actually finishing a level and revealing a picture. That said, they can bypass this problem by viewing an advertisement that allows them to continue. When they reveal the picture, the game removes the pixels and transfers it as a completed painted icon to a collections area.
