Black and White Dimensions is a timed, black-and-white-themed, three-dimensional block-matching game based on Chinese Mahjong. Against different black-and-white backdrops, the player removes similar-colored stacked blocks, known as stones, that feature Mahjong bamboo sticks, characters, dots and dragon, flower and season symbols. Their goals are to clear away stacks and earn the highest scores.
A pair of stones must contain one black stone and one white stone that feature matching icons. As with similar games, the player can only remove stones that have at least two adjacent free sides. They must also complete their task before time runs out on a timer in the upper-left area.
Black and White Dimensions makes play more difficult by increasing the number of blocks the player must remove from the field on each new level. That said, the player can rotate a stack on a circular platform by using arrow buttons to help them find pairs faster. They can also pause the game and timer whenever they need a break before trying to remove a larger stack.
In the lower-right area, the game also supplies a hint button labeled with a question mark. Use of this button isn't free. When the player selects it, they lose some of their accumulated points. If they use it too often, their score drops to a negative number.
