Best Friends Puzzle is a connect-style, match-3 puzzle game with a friendly insect theme. Along a long, winding path in a nighttime forest, the player attempts to make friends with five insects that need their help defending against enemies. The player must use connect lines to create matches of three or more similar items in the forest based on goals that their new friends give them. When they make connections, they complete goals, attack enemies, or both.
The player starts by connecting acorns, flowers, leaves, water droplets and other items found in the forest for one new friend. They use diagonal, horizontal and vertical connect lines. They track their goals near the upper-left corner and their remaining moves near the upper-right one. When the player completes their goals, they receive a reward of potions, diamonds and coins.
Best Friends Puzzle offers perks that act like boosters. For example, if the player connects enough acorns for one friend, they create a row bomb. If they connect yellow flowers for a different friend, they can transform items near the converter into yellow flowers that then make it possible for that friend to critically strike enemies. In some cases, the player must connect 12 or more items to activate a perk.
Throughout the game, the player receives opportunities to open gift boxes with coins and use a spin wheel by viewing ad videos. When they collect enough potions from match-3 games and these reward opportunities, they can upgrade one or more friends. That said, some boxes are empty, which means that they run the risk of wasting one or more coins.
