Asphalt Retro is Asphalt Urban GT by Gameloft in all its classic glory online. This retro edition displays all the controls and graphics of the original game across two race modes. The player's main objective is to complete each race in first place and receive a winner's purse.
In the first mode, Instant Play, the player's car is immediately placed into a daytime or nighttime highway race with clear weather, rain or even snow. The player must steer their vehicle around congested traffic, traffic barriers and other obstacles, across multiple lanes of traffic and through or along tunnels and curves. The second mode, Arcade, offers similar play but in simulated real-world locales, such as London, Luxor, New York, Paris, Siracusa, Tokyo, Vladivostok and the famous Route 66.
During a race, the player can review their balance at the top of the screen. The money decreases if they scratch their vehicle or allow police cars or helicopters to stop them by either pushing them off the highway or zapping their vehicle with an electrical pulse. Any stop, whether by police or impact with obstacles, can cost them their position in the race.
Asphalt Retro tracks their race position at the top-left corner and above other race cars. At the end of a race, it also reveals several statistics, including the number of getaways, scratches, bumps, speed and urban havoc.
