Apothecarium: The Renaissance of Evil is a hidden-objects game set in Italy in Gothic Renaissance locations. A plague has stricken the people and land. The player must search an abandoned city that once housed the greatest alchemists from near and far to find a cure. There is no guarantee that their attempts can save anyone, but the player is alone in trying to help those who are still alive thwart death!
The player can select either a Training or Normal mode to play across the six available levels (City Entrance, Near Estate, Entrance to the House, Bridge, Planetarium and Coach) of this version of the game. Within each level, the player must complete five sets of tasks.
Each image is incredibly detailed and filled with a lot of items strewn across the scene. The player must sift through these items visually to complete their tasks and find the clues to the mystery. In Training mode, they must beat a timer and only receive a short list of items. In Normal mode, they're given a long list in each set without a timer.
Apothecarium: The Renaissance of Evil does offer help to the player. It provides a hint tool in the form of a magical instrument that shows them the exact location of an item when the player selects it. During timed play, the clock loses seconds when they use this tool.
