Angry Gran is an arcade, endless-runner, side-scroller that features an angry, elderly grandmother who punishes perceived evildoers and property while walking down the sidewalk. She also earns a bit of dosh from theft and damage along the way. The player's task is to help her bash everything in her path with a huge hammer and other weapons, make a lot of money and walk as far as possible. They must also prevent her from hitting any policeman because they will punish her temporarily with a straightjacket.
The player can swing Gran's hammer or other weapon, such as a lightsaber, rubber chicken, skateboard or traffic sign, at pedestrians and benches, boxes, old couches, fire hydrants and other property. They can also charge Gran's strength, which makes her jump in the air when she brings down the hammer. If Gran misses, she hits herself with the weapon and then can't lift it immediately. If she hits herself after a charge, she becomes stuck temporarily in a motorized wheelchair that forces her rapidly toward a checkpoint.
Angry Gran rewards the player with points and coins. They use coins to increase Gran's strength, reduce her recovery time from self-inflicted hits and decrease the amount of money needed at each checkpoint. They also buy boosters. That said, after each checkpoint, the game makes her walk faster and dramatically increases the money she needs during each part of the run. If the player fails, they must restart the entire run.
